Bayraktar TB2 overview
The Bayraktar TB2 is a tactical armed unmanned aerial vehicle developed and manufactured by the Turkish company Baykar. First flown in 2014, the TB2 has become one of the most combat-proven drones in the world, seeing action in Syria, Libya, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and most prominently in Ukraine following the 2022 Russian invasion. The TB2 carries MAM-L and MAM-C precision-guided munitions produced by Roketsan and features a triple-redundant avionics system with domestic Turkish components.
The TB2's success in combat, particularly in destroying air defense systems and armored vehicles in Nagorno-Karabakh and Ukraine, has revolutionized perceptions of drone warfare and generated massive international demand. As of 2025, the Bayraktar TB2 has been exported to over 30 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. The drone's significance extends beyond its military impact, as it has become a symbol of Turkish defense industry capabilities and a strategic diplomatic tool. While the larger Akinci and carrier-capable TB3 represent Baykar's next generation, the TB2 remains in high demand as an affordable, battle-tested combat UAV platform.
