Bayraktar TB2S overview

Bayraktar TB2S is the satellite-communications-enabled evolution of Baykar's TB2 unmanned combat aircraft. Its principal mission distinction is beyond-line-of-sight connectivity: a TB2S can be tasked and supported over a wider operating area than a strictly line-of-sight control arrangement, while retaining the TB2 family's intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and precision-strike roles. SATCOM does not by itself prove a particular weapon or range.

Baykar's TB2-family material reports a 6.5-m length, 12-m wingspan, 120-knot speed, 27-hour endurance, 150-kg payload, and 700-kg MTOW. Those figures are manufacturer claims and may describe the family baseline rather than every TB2S configuration. TB2S-specific SATCOM performance, mission radius, height, and detailed equipment remain Not publicly disclosed, so this profile avoids presenting baseline values as independent TB2S tests.

Baykar publicly showed the SATCOM variant around 2020, while TB2 aircraft have accumulated extensive documented export and combat use. Public operator lists do not consistently separate TB2S from other TB2 configurations through 2026. The aircraft is therefore a mature variant of a fielded family, but each country's TB2 inventory should not automatically be counted as a confirmed TB2S fleet.

Development and operational timeline

  1. Baykar develops satellite-communications integration for the TB2 family to extend beyond-line-of-sight control
  2. TB2S SATCOM configuration becomes publicly visible in Baykar materials and reporting
  3. TB2-family combat and export use continues while public sources rarely distinguish individual variants
  4. TB2S remains a relevant SATCOM variant; a complete variant-specific operator list is Not publicly disclosed
