SEA WASP

SEA WASP overview

The SEA WASP is a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) developed by Saab for underwater explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and mine neutralization operations. The small, portable system is designed to be deployed from rigid-hull inflatable boats, piers, or shore-based positions to identify and neutralize underwater threats including mines, improvised explosive devices, and unexploded ordnance. The SEA WASP carries cameras and a disruptor charge system for neutralizing explosive threats.

The SEA WASP has been adopted by the U.S. Navy, Swedish Navy, and other forces for diving and EOD operations. The system allows EOD technicians to neutralize underwater threats from a safe distance, reducing the risk to combat divers. As of 2025, Saab continues to produce and improve the SEA WASP with enhanced cameras, improved maneuverability, and integration with modern command systems. Its significance lies in providing a dedicated underwater EOD tool that fills a critical niche between large mine countermeasures vessels and combat divers, enabling rapid response to underwater threats in ports, harbors, and coastal areas.
