TAI Anka-S overview

The TAI Anka-S is a medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI). The Anka program began in 2004 with the goal of creating a domestically produced MALE UAS to reduce Turkey's reliance on foreign suppliers. The Anka-S variant, featuring satellite communication for beyond-line-of-sight operations, entered service in 2017. The aircraft is equipped with synthetic aperture radar, electronic intelligence (ELINT) systems, and can carry precision-guided munitions including MAM-L and MAM-C.

As of 2025, TAI has continued to develop the Anka family, including the Aksungur variant with twin engines and extended payload capacity. The Anka-S has been deployed operationally by the Turkish Armed Forces for ISR and SIGINT missions, both domestically and in cross-border operations. Tunisia has also acquired the system. The platform's significance lies in being Turkey's first domestically developed MALE UAS with SATCOM capability, forming the foundation for the country's indigenous defense UAV industry alongside Baykar's products and contributing to Turkey's position as a major global drone exporter.
