MAGURA V5 overview

Ukraine's Defence Intelligence (HUR) and Ukrainian defense-industry material identify the MAGURA V5 (Maritime Autonomous Guard Unmanned Robotic Apparatus) as an unmanned surface vessel developed for Ukraine's maritime campaign. Ukrainian descriptions put the vessel at approximately 5.5 metres, use a jet-drive propulsion system, and advertise speeds up to 42 knots, maritime attack and ISR roles, mine-countermeasure potential, and several warhead options; these figures and configurations are source claims rather than an independently audited data sheet.

HUR and other reporting attribute multiple attacks on Russian Black Sea Fleet assets to MAGURA V5 boats. Those reports support the system's combat use, but they do not consistently establish how many boats participated, which payload each carried, or the precise damage mechanism. Claims that the V5 altered the naval balance are analytical conclusions from those reported attacks, not a manufacturer measurement. Production scale, electronic-warfare resistance, range, and later upgrades also remain partly undisclosed.

The V5's combat record illustrates both the promise and the evidentiary limits of wartime maritime-drone reporting. Video, official claims, and satellite or vessel imagery can establish that an attack occurred without revealing the exact boat configuration, payload, or guidance chain. Later MAGURA variants should consequently be tracked separately rather than used to retrofit the V5 with capabilities that were not documented for it.

Ukraine's Defence Intelligence (HUR) publicly attributed a 31 December 2024 Black Sea engagement to a MAGURA V5 carrying an R-73 air-to-air missile, reporting the destruction of a Russian Mi-8; the attribution and exact engagement details remain wartime claims rather than an independently reconstructed test. Defense Central's 2024 Eurosatory report also documented the battle-tested V5's international presentation. By 2026, newer MAGURA variants and payloads are appearing in public reporting, so V5 specifications and later combat claims should not automatically be transferred to the broader MAGURA family.
