The Kaman-22 is Iran's most capable medium-altitude long-endurance strike and reconnaissance UAV, developed by the IRGC Aerospace Force and first revealed publicly in 2023. With a 24-hour endurance and 3,000 km range, it gives Iran persistent ISR and strike reach across a geographic envelope that covers the entire Middle East, the Red Sea, and significant portions of the Indian Ocean — capabilities previously only available to states operating satellites or long-range crewed aircraft. For the IRGC, which has made drone proliferation a central pillar of its military strategy, the Kaman-22 provides organic theater-level surveillance that reduces dependence on human intelligence and reduces exposure of Iranian personnel to hostile intelligence gathering.

Whether independently developed or influenced by exposure to the RQ-170 Sentinel captured in 2011 and other downed American drones, the Kaman-22 demonstrates genuine Iranian capability to develop long-endurance unmanned platforms rather than simply adapting commercial designs.
