Ironclad overview

The Ironclad is an unmanned ground vehicle developed by BAE Systems Australia for military applications including logistics support, ISR, and combat support. The 6x6 wheeled platform is designed to operate in rough terrain and can carry various mission payloads including weapon stations, sensor suites, and cargo modules. The vehicle features a hybrid electric drivetrain for silent operation and extended range.

The Ironclad has been developed in collaboration with the Australian Defence Force and is designed to work alongside dismounted infantry forces. The vehicle can autonomously follow soldiers on patrol, carry heavy equipment and supplies, and provide overwatch with mounted sensors. As of 2025, BAE Systems Australia has been conducting testing and demonstration of the Ironclad as part of Australia's broader investment in autonomous ground systems. Its significance lies in Australia's growing commitment to autonomous military technology and BAE Systems' expansion of its robotic capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region, addressing the unique terrain and operational challenges of the Australian defense environment.
