Falcão overview

The Falcão is a medium combat unmanned aerial vehicle jointly developed by Avibrás and Embraer, combining Avibrás's expertise in weapons systems with Embraer's aerospace engineering capabilities to create Brazil's first indigenous armed drone platform. With an anticipated initial operational capability around 2025, the Falcão features a 10-meter wingspan, maximum speed of approximately 350 km/h, and endurance of around 15 hours, positioning it as a capable multi-role combat and ISR platform. The program represents a strategic initiative by the Brazilian government to develop sovereign strike UAV capability, reducing reliance on imported armed drone systems.

The Falcão is designed to carry precision-guided munitions including laser-guided bombs and air-to-ground missiles, providing the Brazilian Armed Forces with organic unmanned strike capability for the first time. The platform integrates a comprehensive avionics suite including synthetic aperture radar, electro-optical and infrared sensors, and a laser designator for autonomous target acquisition and weapons guidance. The Falcão program leverages Embraer's extensive experience in military aircraft development, including the Super Tucano and KC-390 programs, while Avibrás contributes weapons integration expertise from its ASTROS rocket artillery and precision munitions programs. The combat UAV is intended to support a range of missions including border defense, maritime patrol, and precision strike operations, establishing Brazil as one of the few nations in the Southern Hemisphere with an indigenously developed armed drone capability.
