Albatroz overview

The Albatroz is a small tactical unmanned aerial vehicle developed by Santos Lab, a Brazilian defense technology company specializing in unmanned systems for military and public safety applications. Entering service around 2016, the Albatroz was designed as a lightweight, man-portable ISR platform suitable for tactical units operating in diverse environments ranging from urban areas to jungle terrain. With a wingspan of approximately 3.6 meters and a maximum speed of 120 km/h, the Albatroz provides around 4 hours of flight endurance for close-range reconnaissance and surveillance missions.

The Albatroz features an electric propulsion system for low acoustic and thermal signatures, making it difficult to detect at operational altitudes. The platform carries a gimbaled electro-optical camera with optional infrared capability, streaming real-time video to a portable ground control station that can be operated by a two-person team. Santos Lab has marketed the Albatroz to both military and law enforcement customers within Brazil and across Latin America, leveraging the platform's ease of use and rapid deployment capability. The system has been employed in public security operations during major events in Brazil and has supported environmental monitoring missions over protected areas in the Amazon basin, demonstrating the versatility of Brazilian-developed unmanned platforms.
