AEGIR-F overview

The AEGIR-F is the smallest and most discreet platform in Sierra Nevada Corporation's AEGIR unmanned surface vessel family, designed specifically for covert operations in highly contested littoral environments where larger platforms would risk detection. Measuring just 2.1 meters in length and powered by a whisper-quiet electric drive system, the AEGIR-F produces minimal acoustic, thermal, and radar signatures — a combination that makes it exceptionally difficult to detect against the cluttered background of coastal waters. The platform weighs approximately 120 kilograms and can carry up to 30 kilograms of mission payload, typically configured as an electro-optical/infrared sensor suite, communications relay node, or covert data-exfiltration package.

The AEGIR-F was conceived as part of SNC's broader family-of-systems approach to autonomous maritime warfare, where vessels of different sizes and capability profiles operate as a networked team — the AEGIR-F conducting close-in clandestine work while larger family members handle medium- and long-range missions. Its compact size allows launch from rigid inflatable boats, submarine external lockout chambers, and small patrol craft, giving special operations forces a persistent sensor presence in areas where crewed platforms cannot safely operate. The UK and US have evaluated the platform in exercises focused on port surveillance and coastal infiltration detection, and Ukraine is believed to have received AEGIR-F units for operations in the Black Sea.
