Also known as: Cardinal III / Advanced Tactical Mini UAV / NCSIST Cardinal III

Cardinal III overview
The Cardinal III is an advanced tactical unmanned aerial vehicle developed by NCSIST, representing a significant capability leap beyond the earlier Cardinal series. Introduced in 2022, the Cardinal III features a substantially larger airframe with a 3.5-meter wingspan and approximately 6 hours of endurance, positioning it between traditional mini UAVs and full-sized tactical platforms. The aircraft incorporates advanced avionics including GPS/INS navigation, an upgraded digital data link with extended range, and a multi-sensor payload bay capable of carrying electro-optical, infrared, and laser designator equipment.
The Cardinal III was developed in response to evolving operational requirements as Taiwan modernized its defense posture against potential cross-strait threats. The platform can perform both pre-programmed autonomous missions and operator-controlled flight, with real-time video streaming to battalion and brigade command posts. Its increased endurance and sensor capability make it suitable for extended area surveillance, convoy escort, and artillery spotting missions. The Cardinal III has been integrated into Taiwan's layered drone architecture alongside the larger Albatross II and Teng Yun platforms, providing medium-altitude coverage that complements both close-range mini drones and high-endurance MALE systems.
