ARX Robotics Gereon overview

The ARX Robotics Gereon is a German modular tracked unmanned ground vehicle that emerged from a simple but urgent premise: the most lethal ground on a modern battlefield is the space between a soldier and their objective. Founded in 2021 by former German Armed Forces officers, Munich-based ARX Robotics built the Gereon around the 'first unmanned contact' doctrine — robots absorb the risk of initial engagement while soldiers remain in covered positions. The platform's defining feature is its open-architecture payload system: a single Gereon can transition from carrying ammunition to evacuating a casualty to mounting a weapon station to jamming drones, with tool-free swaps taking minutes rather than hours. At the core is Mithra OS, ARX's proprietary fleet operating system that manages updates, coordinates multiple robots simultaneously, and enables semi-autonomous navigation — so operators can direct a squad of Gereons the way a commander directs troops.

The Combat Gereon variant was co-developed with Ukrainian defense firm Frontline, incorporating direct frontline feedback: smaller profile, simpler controls operable by soldiers with minimal training, and modular repair architecture so damaged systems can be stripped for parts or rebuilt at forward positions. Ukraine received 30 units in late 2024 funded by the German government, and one Ukrainian medical unit alone conducted 20 casualty evacuations with the platform. At AUSA 2025, ARX unveiled a counter-UAS Gereon integrating Dedrone's Defender 2 AI-powered jammer, able to neutralize drones beyond visual range in urban terrain. With a Deutz partnership enabling production scale-up from 1 to 85 units per day and Europe's largest defense robotics facility now operating near Munich, ARX is positioned to field the Gereon at a scale not seen in ground robotics since the Second World War.
