UJ-22 Airborne overview
The UJ-22 Airborne is a medium-size unmanned aerial vehicle developed by the Ukrainian company UkrJet. Originally designed as a multi-role reconnaissance platform, the UJ-22 has been adapted for long-range strike missions during the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The aircraft has a maximum takeoff weight of approximately 85 kg, an endurance of up to 6 hours, and a range that has been reported to exceed 800 km, making it capable of reaching targets deep behind enemy lines.
Since 2022, the UJ-22 Airborne has been used by Ukrainian forces for both reconnaissance and strike operations, reportedly including attacks on targets within Russian territory. The platform can carry various payloads including EO/IR cameras for ISR and improvised explosive payloads for strike missions. As of 2025, the UJ-22 continues to serve as part of Ukraine's expanding long-range drone strike capability alongside purpose-built systems. Its significance lies in demonstrating how a commercially derived airframe can be adapted for military purposes under wartime pressure, contributing to Ukraine's ability to conduct strategic-depth strikes that affect the operational environment.
