PD-2

PD-2 overview

The PD-2 is a tactical unmanned aerial vehicle developed by the Ukrainian company UkrSpec Systems. Designed as a versatile multi-role platform, the PD-2 features a modular payload bay capable of carrying various sensor packages including EO/IR cameras, multispectral imagers, and communications relay equipment. The aircraft has a maximum takeoff weight of approximately 20 kg and an endurance of up to 10 hours, with the ability to operate in adverse weather conditions and GPS-denied environments using inertial navigation.

The PD-2 has been widely used by Ukrainian forces since 2014 during the conflict in eastern Ukraine, providing tactical ISR to front-line units. Following the 2022 Russian invasion, the PD-2 saw dramatically expanded use for artillery spotting, battle damage assessment, and situational awareness across the front lines. As of 2025, UkrSpec Systems has continued to refine the platform with improved electronic warfare resistance and enhanced communications security. The PD-2's significance lies in demonstrating how a relatively small, affordable tactical drone produced by a domestic startup can provide critical intelligence capabilities to a modern military engaged in high-intensity conflict.
