Rogue 1 overview
Last reviewed:
Rogue 1 is Teledyne FLIR Defense's small, vertical-takeoff-and-landing loitering munition for tactical reconnaissance and precision attack. It is an electrically powered multirotor rather than a tube-launched fixed-wing weapon. Its defining feature is the ability to abort an engagement and recover the aircraft for reuse when circumstances permit. That recoverability applies before a destructive strike; it does not make a munition that has detonated reusable. The aircraft is intended to give small units a directly controlled option beyond their immediate line of sight.
At its May 2024 public introduction, Teledyne FLIR advertised a 30-minute flight time, range greater than 10 km and burst speed above 113 km/h. These are manufacturer-provided figures for different parts of the flight envelope, not a demonstrated mission combining maximum speed, maximum distance and longest endurance. The company describes electro-optical and Boson 640+ thermal imaging for day and night observation. Its modular payload offerings include an explosively formed penetrator, forward-fragmenting effects and an inert trainer, allowing a configuration to be selected for the mission rather than assuming all effects are fitted together.
The development record predates the public launch. Teledyne says it supplied initial systems to U.S. Special Operations Command in 2022 for Ground Organic Precision Strike Systems evaluation. Its May 2024 release also described selection for the Marine Corps Organic Precision Fires-Light program under a contract vehicle with a ceiling of US$249 million and an initial order for 127 systems. A contract ceiling is not expenditure, a planned delivery is not a delivery receipt, and provision for evaluation is not evidence of combat use. These distinctions are important when reading procurement headlines about the aircraft.
On December 5, 2025, Teledyne announced a US$42.5 million OPF-L delivery order covering more than 600 Rogue 1 systems plus control stations and training equipment. The company called this its first production-rate loitering-munition contract following the 2024 test-and-evaluation award. Its release contains forward-looking delivery wording, so this profile does not invent a completed-delivery total or resolve that schedule by assumption. Through the November 2026 editorial review, the linked record establishes evaluation and production procurement, while independently audited combat effectiveness, fleet-wide fielding totals and universal performance in navigation-denied environments remain unverified.
