Griffen overview

Griffen is a jet-powered interceptor developed by Firebolt Engineering, a British-Ukrainian company created by the Odesa engineering group Tekhnary with backing from the British investment platform Grenadyr. It is designed to destroy Shahed/Geran-class attack aircraft at a lower cost than conventional surface-to-air missiles while delivering the speed needed to catch targets that outrun many propeller-driven interceptor drones.

In July 2026 Firebolt reported that Griffen had destroyed a Shahed-class target in combat, describing it as the first confirmed Ukrainian jet-interceptor kill of this type. That milestone is more significant than an exhibition unveiling because it indicates an operational guidance and engagement chain.

Firebolt has not released a detailed data sheet, however, and the limited public record does not support exact dimensions, speed, range, payload, or production numbers. The combat claim remains attributed to the manufacturer, while the broader role is supported by independent defense reporting.
