Skydio X10 overview

The Skydio X10 is a compact, ruggedized autonomous quadcopter developed by Skydio for military and government customers requiring reliable close-range ISR without specialized pilots. At its core is Skydio's proprietary AI autonomy stack, which uses six 4K navigation cameras and onboard neural processing to build real-time 3D maps of the environment — allowing the drone to fly confidently in GPS-denied environments including dense urban canyons, tunnels, and under forest canopy. The X10 carries a modular sensor suite including 50× optical zoom EO, FLIR thermal IR, and optional LiDAR, all controlled through Skydio's government-grade encrypted ground control software.

The U.S. Army has been a significant early adopter, integrating the X10 into its short-range reconnaissance requirements under the sUAS (small Unmanned Aircraft System) program. The drone's ability to autonomously track and orbit subjects, follow waypoints, and maintain a persistent stare without pilot input reduces cognitive load in high-stress tactical environments. Skydio has emphasized data security as a competitive differentiator against DJI and other Chinese-manufactured competitors, hosting all data processing on U.S.-based infrastructure and designing the system to meet DoD cybersecurity requirements. The X10D variant adds a dedicated defense-focused sensor suite and hardened datalink for contested spectrum environments.

Armament
